Agora99 in Madrid [01-04nov]

What is it?
It’s a meeting of European and Mediterranean movements and networks to talk, work and produce common “routes for action” on Debt, Democracy and Rights. It will take place in Madrid between the 1st and 4th of November 2012.

Why?
The cuts and plundering policies we are suffering are generated at a global and European level. The financial economy plays its game on a board that goes way beyond national borders.

What does this space make up for the 99%?

Why was it that millions of people felt deeply affected by what happened in Egypt, in Tunisia, in Portugal, in Syntagma Square in Greece, en Wall Street, in Chile, in Mexico and in many other places around the globe?

How does this new type of political “structure” (built on horizontal and assembleary practices based on consensus) work after the outburst of the Arab Spring, Iceland, Greece, after the 15th May in Spain and the Occupy in the world?

Even more importantly, how do we proceed?

What for?
We want to build links between what we have learnt in the square and in the networks that have emerged in the context of the 15M/Occupy with the knowledge of other European and Mediterranean networks. We want to produce a space for mixing, cooperating and organising that could work at least at a European level.

The aim is to end the meeting with a common path for actions and with common events around three axes: Debt, Democracy and Rights. We also want to forge common working tools that strengthen a European network.

Where does it come from?
The proposal came out the “Blockupy” European meeting that took place in Frankfurt between the 17th and 20th of May

When is it going to take place?
From the 1st to the 4th of November in Madrid.

1st Nov socializing activities for people arriving in Madrid
2nd-3rd Nov meetings
4th November general assembly in the morning

Where?
Mainly in the streeets and squares of  Madrid, but also using some places in the occupied social centres for the workshops that need communication technology tools (e.g. telemeetings)

How can I participate?
On the web page 99agora.net, you can find texts, minutes and calls. On the same page there is also an on-line form that can be used to propose workshops, activities, actions

http://99agora.net/workshops/

If you want to propose something, please bear in mind:

A.- This is a European-Mediterranean meeting, so try to make proposals that address this scale.
B.- The workshops will fall into one of the following working themes: Debt, Democracy and Rights. They are very wide issues and we want to make them complex, but is it important to keep the workshops within them.
C.- The meeting has mainly a practical character, we want to share working methodologies, tools, taking decision process, real experiences of active resistance and alternatives, the common path we have against illegitimate debt, a common language and common future actions and networks, etc.

It will be easier for the workshops to go ahead if they are focussed on sharing practical experiences.

We will have a syntesis process, merging workshops with similar contents, proposing cooperation mechanism between proposals, etc. This has the aim of making the participation as open and wide as possible while bearing in the time limitations of the meeting. It will start after 10th of October so send your proposals before the 10th of october

When proposing a workshop it is necessary to make explicit: content, methodology, people in charge and resources needed to make it possible.

How it is organised?
We are organising through open meetings in Madrid.
People attending in these meetings are coordinating through the mailing list: madrid99agora@99agora.net.
Besides this, the networks that emerged from the Blockupy are participating through the Blockupy mailing list and through Mumble meetings.
The meeting notifications will be published on 99agora.net and we ask for them to be spread as widely as possible.
We have also created the following three working groups: Facilitating content, Communication and Logistics

We hope to see you here in Madrid
