AcampadaBCN JUNE 1, 2011

INFORMATION NOTE:   # NoNosVamos: AcampadaBCN stays in Plaza Catalunya

AcampadaBCN General Assembly to remain in Plaça Catalunya continuing to work in a public space for debate that has allowed us to collect collective demands and proposals of thousands of citizens who, for order, has given us a voice. People have seen that someone really cares about our problems, which so far have not been adressed by the traditional politics or their processes.
The extent of the mobilization, which is beginning to articulate itself in the district assemblies gives continuity to our proposal of democratic regeneration. Fortunately, and in spite of the newness of this movement, the decentralization of the protest is in an advanced state of organization integrating existing and new structures and volunteers wanting to change things.
In the square, we are again in front of the police agression, we do not stop and gain further support. That’s probably why the Assembly did not hesitate one second to proclaim the continuity of the camp indefinitely. There is hunger for real democracy, to reach agreements, to find solutions to a country and a world crisis to which global economic logic leads us to where the powerful privatized
profits and socialize losses.
On Tuesday 31, although it was the Assembly suspended because of heavy rain, more two hundred people joined in beating pots and pans to support the movement. Because of the outpouring of support by citizens, we reaffirm our decision to continue and justify public masures and pressure for the recovery of social rights, which become increasingly precious to us, from a political class that, we repeat, does not represent us.
It is poetic justice that the General Assembly, which has agreed to remain in Plaça Catalunya, took place just a day after the presentation of the 2011 budget in Parliament. In this respect we show our absolute rejection of public spending cuts of more than 10%, which can defined as a direct attack on democracy and citizenship for all that who feel the effects of these attacks on fundamental social rights such as health and education.
We also wish to express our indifference toward a constant attempt at intimidation by some politicians that when they act, show that they only represent some hegemonic powers to objectify the citizenry for their own benefit.
