Occupy Berlin camp evicted

On January 9, 2012, the Occupy Camp in Berlin was peacefully evicted by the police. Unlike on other occasions (for instance in Dessau the previous weekend), the police was unusually friendly. The activists decided to leave the premises without resistance.

The area of the camp (called Bundespressestrand) next to Berlin’s main train station is now a building site for the construction of the new Federal Ministry of Education offices.

Nevertheless, activities in Berlin will continue, there will be a demonstration on January 15, 2012 and further actions in the following months, especially in May 2012 (as well as large actions in
Frankfurt/Main).

There are other Occupy Camps in Germany, for instance in Frankfurt/Main (located in the city centre, right in front of the European Central Bank (ECB) building, and Duesseldorf.
